A Winter Iceland Elopement at Skógafoss (Skogafoss) and Glacier
A Winter Iceland Elopement at Skógafoss (Skogafoss) and Glacier
by Iceland Elopement Photographer & Planner
After 11 years as a couple, K&J wanted an Iceland Elopement Experience to commemorate their relationship.
K&J ventured to Iceland in the middle of winter, during Iceland’s little sunlight months and wanted a winter wonderland for their elopement photos which they got.
After saying their vows and having their ceremony on a separate day, we planned their Iceland elopement wedding photos for the few hours of sunlight we had that day. We chose a few choice, bang for their buck, locations and had a few moments to frolic in the wintery snow-filled fields.
K&J wanted to adventure to the more popular areas in Iceland, so we went to:
Seljalandsfoss waterfall
Skógafoss waterfall
Sólheimajökull glacier
And a few stops in between
If you’re planning a Winter Iceland Elopement, some things to keep in mind are:
We only had about 4-hours together for this winter Iceland Elopement— you don’t need a full-day to get amazing photos.
Many of the locations around the island are hard to access due to deep snow and ice so sticking to some of the more popular spots that have paved pathways and a lot of people could be beneficial if you don’t want to be in the snowy wilderness.
If you go to the popular spots, any time of year, it’s a very low chance there won’t be crowds and people in the background of your images.
If you go to waterfalls in the Iceland winter, definitely wear boots and possibly crampons as the area close to the waterfall gets thick ice build up from the waterfall splash.
Dress with layers, thermals, wool socks, and a nice winter jacket. (Don’t worry, I will hold the jackets for you when we are taking the photos then Rin them back to you!)
