What Does an Iceland Elopement Planner, Coordinator & Photographer Do?
What Does an Iceland Elopement Planner, Coordinator & Photographer Do?
What does an Iceland Elopement Planner, Coordinator & Photographer do, you ask?
When couples first reach out to me, I sometimes hear a version of this: "We don't need elopement planning, we just want you to be just a photographer." And in the same message, they'll ask me to recommend the best Iceland elopement locations, build out an elopement day timeline, and handle the flow of the day. Here's the thing — that is planning.
And I want to walk you through exactly what that means, because understanding the full picture is what helps couples feel so held and taken care of on one of the biggest days of their lives.
An Iceland elopement isn’t just a photoshoot, it is still a wedding and weddings have many moving parts from putting it all together to what happens on the day.
What Iceland Elopement Planning Involves
Iceland elopement planning is everything that happens before you arrive at a location with my cameras ready. It's knowing and selecting locations that fit you, your vibe, your mobility, your vision, the season, the light.
It's building an elopement day timeline that accounts for the time of year, drive times between locations in Iceland (which can be significant and are often not accurate in Google Maps), potential permit requirements, vendor coordination, and contingency for weather.
I've been living in Iceland for over a decade and have photographed more than 500 weddings in my career, and over 1,000 couples all together including adventure sessions and proposals. That depth of local knowledge isn't incidental to the photos, it's what makes the photos possible and the day flow seamlessly.
When someone asks me to "just pick some good Iceland elopement spots," there’s so much more under the hood involved in that that my non-photographer brain kicks in.
Day-Of Coordination Is a Whole Separate Thing
Iceland elopement coordination starts when coordinating the pieces of the pie before your elopement, such as: the other vendors, paperwork, the ceremony, the Celebrant, and making sure all of the events of the day fit within the timeline. Coordinating it all to make sure it is a well-oiled machine for your Iceland elopement day to feel easy and smooth.
And, Iceland elopement coordination goes beyond coordinating the pieces ahead of time, it’s also day-of elopement coordination — what happens on the day itself. This genuinely might be one of the most important parts of what I do for you, even though it's the least visible.
I'm the one keeping the elopement day timeline on track, taking the lead when it's time to move to another location (like the hotel to the ceremony or the ceremony to another spot), organizing everyone before the ceremony so the space looks intentional, directing group shots, making sure the ceremony location gets left on time.
I'm leading the entire Iceland elopement day naturally, and am defaulted to by everyone naturally, so it doesn’t go off the rails and continues to feel effortless.
That's not a photographer thing, it’s more like a producer role. And it matters enormously. When there's no one actively holding the shape of the day, things drift. Time gets lost. Moments get missed. Or, the day won’t live up to it’s full, efficient potential.
Why One Person Doing All Three Things Works Better for You
Because I built the elopement timeline, I know it inside out. Because picked the elopement locations, I know exactly what they look like and when we need to be there. Because I'm also your Iceland elopement photographer, I'm not waiting for instructions from someone else, I'm already anticipating the next moment.
The Iceland elopement planning, the elopement coordination, and the elopement photography are not three separate services stacked on top of each other. They're one integrated approach, and that integration is what makes your Iceland elopement feel effortless from your side of it.
You don't have to manage anything. You just get to be present with your person in one of the most extraordinary places on earth.
This Is How My Brain Works
I come from a background in film production and creative direction — my brain is wired for logistics, flow, and vision simultaneously. I don't separate "the creative" from "the strategy." I am both.
That's true in how I shoot elopements and it's true in how I run an elopement day. After twenty years of photographing weddings and elopements and a decade living here full-time, I don't show up and react. I show up already knowing what the day needs and I lead it accordingly. For couples who want an Iceland elopement photographer who can also just handle it, that's exactly what this is.
