An Intimate Wedding in Hampton Bays, New York | Brooklyn Wedding Photographer
Wedding at Cowfish Restaurant in Hampton Bays, New York | Brooklyn Wedding Photographer
I am really enjoying the trend of weddings becoming more intimate, small, and at non-traditional wedding venues. This wedding was at a seaside restaurant in Long Island, New York just a little bit outside of the city. Brittany and Rob wanted a nice, intimate celebration with their loves surrounding them. They originally planned for an outdoor ceremony, but as things happen, it rained all day so they had to move it all inside at the last minute. They both were such troopers though, the last minute changes didn’t even almost ruin their day. I personally liked it, as it made the ceremony feel more intimate and together since everyone was in a rather small section of the restaurant. These two met working at a restaurant so it is only fitting their wedding be held in a restaurant. Here is what Brittany and Rob said about their experience. I could not have asked for a more down to earth, big hearted couple to document their love.
What did you love most about working with Zakas Photography?
From the very first time we were in contact, I felt like I was coordinating with a good friend. Stephanie is lighthearted, friendly, up for anything, and very professional. I was extremely comfortable with her before, during and after my wedding day - and trusted her implicitly to get the right shots. I can be a bit controlling, but she was more organized than I was!
How did you personalize your wedding and what about your wedding was most unique?
There were numerous small touches that made our wedding very much ours, and untraditional. From our NOLA brass band to the guestbook vinyl records to the twinkle-lit dining room, it all felt like we were transported back in time for our reception. In the beginning, I thought I wanted to elope because cookie-cutter weddings just weren’t our thing. But we made it ours and I couldn’t be happier that we have a “big day” to look back on. It was truly special.
Anything you would have done differently?
I would have stressed less, danced more, and gotten a videographer. I love the little moments our friends and family got on their phones.
What details are you most proud of?
I loved my dress - I knew from the second I tried it on that I was meant to be covered in white sequins ;) the band is a big one too (all the credit goes to my husband on that one)... aaand probably choosing Cowfish for the delicious food. Every wedding should have unforgettable food!!
What particular moment of your day will you remember most?
The ceremony and our first dance - we chose “The Nearness of You” as performed by Keith Richards. We’ve danced to it in the living room multiple times before, but this time it was extra memorable.
Best advice for another couple?
Don’t argue about tiny details - don’t stress about anyone you’ve chosen to work the wedding - and make sure you don’t drink and get lots of sleep the night before so you’re ready for the longest day ever! Try to remember that (if or when) one or many things go wrong, you should smile and focus on your new husband/wife. Make that day the best it can be and bask in the importance and the beauty of it all.
What was the biggest surprise of your wedding day?
That I didn’t cry during our vows! I almost lost it during two rehearsals with our officiant but day of, I had my shit together. Go figure.
