Engagement Session in DUMBO, Brooklyn | Brooklyn Wedding Photographer

I absolutely LOVE shooting engagement sessions in DUMBO, Brooklyn. It has a few different views of the Manhattan skyline in the background, the Brooklyn Bridge, The Manhattan Bridge, and cobble stone streets with old train tracks that are part of New York City's history.

This area is definitely one of the more popular spots in Brooklyn to have engagement sessions and wedding photos taken. No matter where we end up adventuring to, the area always makes for stunning photos. Not only that, but the area is so diverse that each engagement session I shoot there lends for completely different imagery. The area let's me create art that is unique to each couple and their personalities. I have shot DUMBO engagement sessions from the less traveled allies, to walking up the Brooklyn Bridge then down into the park, to inside the Shake Shack, to the Pier. And I can tell you, it is fun every single time.

This DUMBO engagement session was no different in the fun department. When I met Kelsey and Laser down by Jane's Carousel, their laid back and silly personalities were apparent from the start. After creating a plan for where we should go for the session, we started shooting down by the Manhattan Bridge section of the park. I like to get the couples comfortable with me before we hit any major-super-awesome locations within the shoot so I just placed them by the water and had them snuggle on up. One of my main goals with any session, including weddings, is to break the barrier between me and the couple and get everyone comfortable. When my couple is comfortable with me and comfortable in front of the lens realizing it's NBD to be photographed, the real magic can happen.

We then moved along the route I had planned for us where we chit chatted about their upcoming wedding and preparing some details I will need to know in order to document their day as flawlessly as possible. They both had amazing senses of humor, which is my most favorite thing in the world, so we just cracked jokes in between shots. When we got down to the old factory part of the park, we were all serenaded by the sweet sounds of a werewolf playing the violin. Typical Brooklyn.

There was an outfit change in between, which I suggest for the session if there is space to change and you want to take up the entire hour while breaking it up into two different looks. I waited outside of a coffee shop while they changed then BAM! They came out in the most fun, elegant outfits and I was loving the new options we had for some photos. Her flowy dress was *EV-RY-THING*. (If you like wearing dresses, I highly suggest wearing something that has lots of motion it it. It will create drool worthy photos FOR SURE). We ended the session down by the pier at sunset, and as you can see the sunset was fierce, their love was fierce, and the entire session was just drooly-dreamy-awesome-fun times. I can't wait to shoot their wedding later this summer. I know it is going to be so much fun.
