Unexpected Elegance on a Brooklyn Bridge Engagement Shoot
When you think of doing an engagement photo shoot on the Brooklyn Bridge during rush hour, elegance is probably not the word that would come to mind. All of the tourists walking by in their shorts and fanny packs and bikers at high speed commuting home might seem like an obstacle. But for me, they were part of my composition.
More often than not, engagement shoots are more on the casual side. I tend to shoot in more of a documentary style where we walk and talk and I capture the love dynamic between the couple. The couple usually wears outfits that range in ultra casual (think: jeans and flip flops) to a little more on the adorable side with a sun dress and wedge heels or a button-up tucked in. But not Tony and Lu. They decided to bring the sass and elegance in full force.
Tony and Lu met me in DUMBO before we headed to the bridge. I arrived a bit before them and stood on the corner to easily be seen outside of the York Street station. As I was waiting, I noticed this amazing gown, and then I saw a perfectly tailored suit, and then I realized this was Tony and Lu. I was more than excited. It is not every day I get to shoot a fancy red dress on the Brooklyn Bridge. The bridge was packed, there was people in every direction. I did not look at this as a challenge. I took it as an opportunity to embody the spirit of New York in their shoot and juxtapose their outfits with their environment. It's fair to say that I had a ton of fun and loved every second of it, as I do every time I get to shoot on that beauty.
